Work Experience

Novemeber 2000 - July 2001
Walmart.com - Brisbane, CA
Title: Perl Developer
Designed and wrote backend vendor communications software for Walmart.com's automated order fulfillment system. This interfaced with an Oracle database via PL/SQL procedures and also communicated with a Java XML message system. I wrote a custom Perl application for parsing front-end .jsp server logs to determine the most frequent customer web search terms. This application compiled daily reports across 70 front-end web servers for the merchandising department and sorted all data by category, department and search type.

January 1999 - Present
www.chicodigital.com
software engineer/owner
Design, construct and market a lightweight Perl/CGI web site management application. Created a content submission application for snowboardreviews.com. Independent web site development contracting.

September 1996 - October 2000
Scitech Software - Chico, CA
Title: Software Engineer
Duties: Created graphics display drivers in C and assembly language for many graphics chip manufacturers, including ATI, Matrox, S3, Nvidia, 3Dlabs, and 3Dfx. Scitech Software has had two programmers during the development of it's universal graphics driver technology. I wrote large portions of the code that was licensed by IBM and is now bundled with the OS/2 operating system. Used Borland and Watcom source-code debugger tools, makefiles, Perforce and PVCS revision control packages, and Borland IDE tools.

Created a Perl script that converts Borland-created GUI resource (.rc) files into a WX Windows (OS independent GUI) resource file format. Used Perl to create text search-and-replace scripts to automate time-consuming tasks on C source code files. Created a Perl/SQL email filtering utility for the Open Source Bugzilla bug tracking project (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/bugzilla/) on a Linux/Apache platform.

September 1991 - April 1996
Silicon Graphics - Mountain View, CA
Title: Associate Engineer
Duties: Hardware and software engineering in a high volume computer workstation manufacturing environment. Ongoing responsibility for the correct operation of time-critical automated test processes in high volume manufacturing. Required to design, code and modify diagnostic software (in C) and UNIX test process scripts (Bourne shell and Perl) for new products, product changes, and process improvements. Design of test processes as well as writing test procedures and other technical documentation.

Successful design and implementation of a software package for a custom test fixture. Ported and modified a low-level software library onto a new hardware platform in a UNIX environment in the effort to improve testing. Lead circuit board designer for a LCD flat panel display interface card for the SGI O2 workstation. Created data conversion tools using Perl to reformat circuit board netlist data to allow data interchange between two separate hardware design environments.
